About Me — The Clinician Behind the Communication

I’m Colette Lawler, a GDC-registered Dental Hygienist and Therapist turned freelance medical writer and health-communication specialist. I turn complex oral and digital-health knowledge into clear, credible content that helps health and dental organisations communicate with confidence and compassion.

My Story

After more than twenty years working clinically in dentistry, I realised something important: people weren’t struggling with the treatment — they were struggling with the understanding.

I spent my career treating gum disease, restoring teeth, screening for oral cancer, and supporting people through major changes in their health. But the moment that reshaped everything didn’t happen during a procedure.
It happened afterwards, when a patient looked at me and said:

“Why has no one ever explained it like that before?”

That stayed with me.

Because the more time I spent in clinic, the clearer it became: it wasn’t the treatment that made the biggest difference — it was the conversation around it.
The calm explanations.
The reassurance.
The moment where things finally clicked.

After thousands of these one-to-one interactions, I realised I wanted to reach further — beyond the patients booked into my chair each day.

That’s what led me to create ByteWise Health Info: a way to scale the explaining, translating and supporting work I’ve always loved.

With a Master’s in Health Informatics and a PgCert in Oral Cancer, my work now sits at the intersection of oral health, prevention and digital innovation. I help brands and organisations communicate complex ideas — from gum disease to behaviour change to early-detection tech — in a way that real people can actually understand.
